Biography:
Two synthesizers, three microphones. Pounding disco beats under rattling bass sequences. A sound with roots in Italo Disco classics, New Wave and Punk. A pinch of 80’s, combined with electroclash of the 2000‘s – the new summer sound, from beaches to clubs is set. The trio Dina Summer breaks with the sluggish conventions and catapults us directly into a new decade of dark disco. Edgy beats meet striking melodies and go perfectly in harmony with poppy hooks carried by Dina’s unique voice.
Dina Summer is the Berlin-based collaborative band project between Kalipo and DJ couple Local Suicide, fronted by Dina P. The Greek native, who lends her vocals and thought-provoking lyricism to the act, first started performing as a teenager on local radio stations, making waves as one of the first women DJs in Thessaloniki. She later moved to Berlin, meeting her husband and DJ/Producer partner, Brax Moody, to form Local Suicide. The third member of Dina Summer is Bavarian-born Kalipo, who started his music career as the producer and a band member of the German electro-punk band Frittenbude. While the trio initially met at a rave at the Rock am Ring festival in 2013, they only began working on music together in 2019 and have since been refining their combined sound.
The trio’s first release is their new wave disco hymn, ‚Who Am I‚. It was praised by the global blogosphere and received massive support from German radio stations, scoring a Hot Rotation on Berlin’s Radio Eins. The single was also played by DJs like The Hacker, Digitalism, Arnaud Rebotini, Curses, Âme, Joris Voorn, Sasha Carassi and Joyce Muniz, entering Beatport’s Top 10 Indie Dance charts, the Top 15 iTunes Electronic Charts and editorial playlists on Spotify and Apple Music, generating over 500k combined streams. Their follow-up debut album, ‚Rimini‘, was released via Audiolith Records in 2022 and offered a nostalgic and beautifully crafted journey through retro disco sonics, incorporating synth-pop, new wave, and disco elements. The LP earned raving reviews and features from Spiegel Online, Musikexpress, Kulturnews, DJ Mag, Groove, Sonic Seducer, Tsugi, Penthouse, Musikwoche, TIP, and FAZE, who declared the group as one of the most promising up- rising German electronic acts to watch in 2022 while amassing over 4k radio plays around the globe. Their live sets have been equally successful, filling up concert halls and festivals throughout Europe in 2022 & 2023. Currently the trio is writing on their second album which will be released in 2024.
